Objection (Legal Affairs, #1.1)Objection by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, what a delicious treat Sawyer Bennett has in store for us with this series.

“Objection” is the first instalment of Sawyer Bennett's new law series "Legal Affairs" and boy did it start with a bang. There’s definitely no gentle introduction to this storyline and I loved it.

If I Return (The 12 NA's of Christmas)If I Return by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I simply love Sawyer Bennett's Off Series so I waited as long as I possibly could to read this Christmas novella from her.

What started out as a sweet story soon turned into a steamy holiday romance and although one part freaked the bejesus out of me it certainly spiced up my day.

I must admit to preferring Sawyer's other books but don't be put off by me. Sweet Christmas stories don't float my boat but I can't deny this was a well written and thought out piece from Sawyer.

4 Star Review: Ruin (Ruin, #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Ruin (Ruin, #1)Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I did it, I survived Ruin but not before checking if there was a HEA though. Phew, this was one emotional read. Yes, there was pain but there was also beauty both through words and actions as Wes and his little lamb try to survive the shadows that hang over them.

I loved Gabe probably the most in this story so I can't wait to start Toxic to get to his story.

This is a really well written and thought out book. At times it was perhaps too wordy but that may be attractive to other readers.

It was a bit of a strange story though and a little far fetched but hey, this is book-land and anything goes, right?!

I must admit, stories about (view spoiler) are not really enjoyable to me as I find them quite emotional and gut-wrenching but this didn't over-shine the story and I was able to fully appreciate the book despite it's heavy subject matter.

Review: Then Kiss Me

Then Kiss Me Then Kiss Me by Jade C. Jamison
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Jade C Jamison's writing so I'm merrily reading anything and everything I can from her previous releases.

"Then Kiss Me" was an unusual book. I loved it don't get me wrong but there was a difference to the writing style from Jade's more recent books. Whether it was deliberate or not it worked from my perspective. I suspect Jade just developed her own writing style from this point forward.

I really enjoyed the story and the relationship which developed between Casey and Scott. The characters blended well together although Casey was another female lead who I wanted to scream at and possibly get violent with, despite that the story ended with a HEA so I'm a happy bunny!

Although Scott plays in a band this is not really what I term a "band based" book, unlike some of Jade's other books, but the connection worked and brought the characters closer together.

Review: Bet in the Dark

Bet in the Dark Bet in the Dark by Rachel Higginson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a stand-alone contemporary/YA story from Rachel Higginson, hence my attraction to it. I’ve been slighted frustrated by cliff hangers recently and so I was looking for a read which was enjoyable, refreshing, drama free and I found it!!!!

I loved this book. It’s the first book by Rachel Higginson that I have read and it certainly won’t be the last. The story is well written and apart from the odd slightly frustrating typos it was brilliant.

The story centres on Ellie Harris a college student who finds herself in a financial predicament thanks to her MIA roommate, Tara (the T****!!!!). The person Ellie finds herself owing money to is the gorgeous Fin Hunter and despite telling him the debt isn’t hers, Ellie has to come to terms with finding a way to pay Fin back. Feelings between Ellie and Fin soon develop and despite Ellie’s misgivings about Fin and the debt she owes him she can’t help falling in love with him.

I loved Ellie’s character and her willpower. She was faced with a seriously good-looking man and resisted his charms for the sake of her integrity. Fin understands Ellie and respects her wishes but despite his admiration for her self-respect he challenges her emotions at every opportunity. Fin has a secret he is keen to protect but once Ellie finds out the real reason for needing his money back Ellie finds herself unable to fight her feelings for him any longer.

Ellie’s brothers are also adorable in their protectiveness of her and each could easily have their own spin off series. Their relationship with each other and also Ellie is hysterical and heart-warming.

The book is fun, light-hearted and also, for me, reminiscent of Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful books. I read this practically non-stop through the night so that for me warrants a big fat 5* review!!!!

Reaper's Legacy (Reapers MC, #2)Reaper's Legacy by Joanna Wylde
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well after being blown away by Reaper’s Property, I was wondering how much of an impact this second instalment would have on me and I’ll tell you…. THIS BOOK IS BLINKIN’ AMAZING!!!!!

I loved the first sentence, I read it and said to myself “yeah, bring it on”. I was turning the pages on my kindle so fast I thought it was going to overheat although I’m surprised the story itself didn’t cause it to go up in flames a time or two.

If there was ever a book that warranted more than 5 Stars then this is it. Joanna Wylde has created an amazing series with fabulous characters and I am so addicted to it that I’m shaking with anticipation for the next instalment.

Review: The Devil's Reprise

The Devil's Reprise The Devil's Reprise by Karina Halle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I must admit I needed to take a breather after reading the first book in the Devil’s series, The Devil’s Metal. Book one was so good that I was concerned that the second book wouldn’t match up. Need I have been concerned, absolutely not! After reading so many fabulous books by Karina Halle I should have had more faith in her writing skills, especially the way she writes series’.

Having survived his deal he did with the devil, Sage Knightly picks himself up from the aftermath and sets his sights on a new music career but will leaving the memories of Hybrid behind be possible?

Dawn Emerson has returned home and is left pondering her relationship with Sage that is until she receives a call asking her to join him and his new band for their debut tour. Dawn jumps the chance to be re-united with Sage but is left wondering if life on the road with Sage be the same as before or will he have moved on from her and the memories of Hybrid.

After arriving in Paris, Dawn soon realises that Sage is in a bad place and sees that he is free falling into a life of existing rather than living. As soon as they are reunited, Dawn and Sage once again find themselves embroiled in the aftermath of another deal and fight together to save Dawn from her fate but will they survive this time or is this one deal too far…….

Off Chance (Off, #5)Off Chance by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sawyer Bennett has created an amazing series in the “Off” books. Who can resist so many hotties being fired at you from Sawyer Bennett’s fingertips? Can you imagine what it’s like inside Sawyer Bennett’s head with those steamy storylines swimming around waiting to be written!!! I have loved each and every one of the “Off” books and Off Chance was no exception. I did find myself slightly distracted by the book cover though, and it took quite a bit of willpower to get back to the story and to stop staring at the gorgeous Flynn aka Derrick Vargo.

Flynn Caldwell, an unpredictable and emotional firefighter fire fighter, yep ladies Sawyer Bennett went there, comes across Rowan Page in a desperate situation and after rescuing her he soon finds out that she has lost everything and everyone in her life. Determined to help Rowan, Flynn offers her his help and support which Rowan reluctantly accepts. Faced with needing to turn her life around again, Rowan is determined to succeed but insists to Flynn that it has to be on her own terms.

I was delighted to see the return of the previous “Off” characters, especially Nix who’s relationship with Rowan was entertaining if albeit brief. I did find myself slightly frustrated with Rowan though and I know what you will all say, her background made her behave insecurely, blah, blah, blah but she still rattled my cage. That said, Flynn was the perfect character to complement Rowan’s pain in the arse-ness!!!. This book was an obsessive read and I thoroughly enjoyed it, and despite Rowan’s neuroses I came to love her in the end.

S.E.C.R.E.T. (Secret, #1)S.E.C.R.E.T. by L. Marie Adeline
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having read S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared (Secret #2) first, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Cassie’s story and follow her through her own “steps”.

Having found herself working in a café after her world falls apart, Cassie life is put on hold for 5 years while she comes to terms with the loss of her husband.

After finding a notebook left behind in the café by Pauline Davis, Cassie hesitantly dips into it only to be shocked by what she finds: records of her sexual encounters or “steps”. Closing the book quickly, she waits for Pauline to return to retrieve her errant booklet.

When Pauline returns she is Matilda who Cassie later finds out is part of S.E.C.R.E.T. a society created to liberate women’s sexuality by granting them their sexual fantasies. Cassie is hesitant by Matilda’s offer of assistance but eventually contacts her and soon her own “steps” begin.

Each of Cassie’s “steps” are with extremely sexy men in extremely hot situations but again I enjoyed Jesse, the tattooed pastry chef, the most and was glad his story continues with Cassie in book 2.

The culmination of Cassie’s steps sees her biggest adventure but will this mean a HEA for Cassie, you’ll have to read the book to find out!

Review: The Devil's Metal

Tuesday 15 October 2013 No comments
The Devil's Metal The Devil's Metal by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Everyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with Karina Halle and I love everything she writes. Having loved “The Artists Trilogy” and still loving the “Experiment in Terror” books I couldn’t wait to read her new “Devils” series.

Did I enjoy it, abso-bloody-lutely!!!! It’s another brilliant storyline from Karina Halle and this time centres around an up and coming music journalist, Dawn Emerson, and the band she loves, Hybrid. After finding herself bagging the ultimate job, travelling with Hybrid and writing a review of their latest tour, Dawn finds herself embedded in something mysterious which is affecting the band and which appears to be directly linked to band member Sage Knightly.

As the tour progresses and strange occurrences continue, Dawn begins to suspect something more than bad luck has attached itself to the band and determined to understand more she starts to put the pieces together only to uncover the truth. Dawn has to decide whether she will stay and be part of the unfolding events or turn her back on Hybrid and more importantly Sage who has captured her heart.

This is a fast paced storyline with a rather nice relationship which develops between Dawn and Sage which looks to continue into book 2 in the series, The Devil’s Reprise. The supporting cast are an interesting mix of human and non-human characters who each have a part to play in the unfolding events.

This story is based in the 1970s and with all the band talk, I found myself reacquainting myself with some serious tunes from the back in day.

The Devil’s Reprise (book 2) is already live so enjoy this and rush on over to get your teeth into the second book in the series.

Review: Unexpected Protector

Unexpected Protector Unexpected Protector by Sloan Johnson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having loved the premise of Isthmus Alliance and also Unexpected Angel, this was one eagerly anticipated book. Carrying on from Dylan and Tasha’s story, this book picks up where Unexpected Angel ended with Holly in hospital fighting for her life.

Recovering from her ordeal, Holly finds herself being supported by Tommy Reed, Dylan’s friend and the off duty police officer who helped to rescue her and Tasha. Unexpectedly drawn to Holly, Tommy finds himself helping her to turn her life around and he shows Holly that life is worth fighting for.

I really enjoyed this book but I must admit I hated the ending. Cliff-hangers are all good and well but only if the next book is in sight otherwise they are just an unnecessary cruelty for readers!

As much as I love these books something is still not gelling. The characters are magical but I felt that the storyline needed more time to evolve to ensure the book didn’t leave any questions unanswered. The dynamic between Jeff, Holly’s doctor, Mary, Holly’s attorney and Zeke left me confused and I hope this becomes clear in the next book. That said, I can’t wait for the next instalment.

Review: Feverish

Feverish Feverish by Jade C. Jamison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think Jade C Jamison is my new author obsession. The woman is a freaking amazing writer and boy does she get hot and sexy across well! Having loved the first two books in the Bullet series I was so ridiculously excited waiting for Feverish.

I have to say the book rocked, literally!!! Feverish is exactly what it was. Clay "Jet" Smith's story was the one I was secretly waiting for and I wasn't disappointed. Having had his heart crushed by unreciprocated love twice before Clay was happy simply living on an emotional diet of music and porn that was until Emily Brinkman came into his life.

Clay's disorganised life gets the better of him and he eventually agrees to appoint a PA (oh, if only I could get a gig like that) to sort his chaotic life out. In walks Emily, fresh from graduating with a BA and waiting for her fiancé to return from Europe, Emily accepts Clay’s offer of employment and settles in to working for a rock star. Despite Clay’s obvious attraction to Emily he respects her boundaries but does offer her “Jet” his sexy bad-boy persona should she ever need him.

This book was a nice, uncomplicated read which focussed on two characters getting to know each other and themselves. Clay and Jet were truly special and Emily’s relationship with both characters was captivating. What I did love about Feverish was that Jade didn’t rush through scenes, especially the sex scenes which built with delicious abandon. I loved that there was a HEA and nothing was left unanswered. Bullet #4 brings more of Brad but in the meantime I’m off to read Tangled Web to feed my new fixation with Jade’s books!!!!

Review: Craving Redemption

Craving Redemption Craving Redemption by Nicole Jacquelyn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one absolutely rocking series and one that I had forgotten about after reading Craving Constellations last year.

After recommending Craving Constellations to Luc from JG&F, I reignited my love of the book by re-reading it before starting Craving Redemption. You were given an insight into where this story would lead at the end of Craving Constellations when Grease was accosted by an unknown woman. That woman was Callie and their story begins 5 years before.

After breaking her parent's grounding, Callie ends up at a party and in danger after her drink is spiked. Facing being raped, Callie turns to a mysterious stranger for help; Grease. Grease is immediately drawn to 16 year old Callie and takes her safely to her Gram's house but unbeknownst to her, her problems are only just beginning.

What follows is tragic story but one with a romance that would crack the hardest of hearts.

I loved this book, possibly more than the first story but all of the characters in the Aces MC books are amazing and endearing.

If you like your MC books and haven't read these then you should, asap!!!!

Review: Craving Constellations

Craving Constellations Craving Constellations by Nicole Jacquelyn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, what a treat of a book. I love my MC club books so I was so happy to have been recommended this one to read.

Brenna leaves the Aces MC club family and attempts to carve out a normal life for herself only to find her dream shattered by her abusive husband, Tony. Faced with only one course of action and needing to find a place if safety for her and her daughter Trix, Brenna returns home to her father Poet, the VP of the MC Club. It’s been five years since Brenna has been home and five years since she has seen her father and Dragon, a Club lieutenant and unbeknownst to him, Trix’s father.

Brenna arrives battered and bruised from her husband’s latest attack and falls into her father’s arms. Having left the Club under a cloud, Brenna finds herself having to re-build relationships with those she spurned for a so called better life. Once their one night stand becomes widely known, Dragon Grease, Brenna’s childhood friend who turned a blind eye to their one night stand all those years ago, find themselves facing punishment for their misdemeanours.

Dragon has never forgotten his feelings for Brenna and immediately falls back into love with her despite his fury over her decision to allow another man, her abusive husband, to raise his child as his own. Now living in relative safety, Brenna and Trix start to turn their lives around only to find her husband doesn’t want to let her go and decides to fight for custody of Trix.

Brenna’s story is sad but Dragon’s story is heart-breaking as he comes to terms with losing the first five years of his daughter’s life and other secrets Brenna has kept from him. Despite his anger and resentment at what Brenna did, he can’t help but fall in love with her all over again and this time fights for what is his.

I loved this story and can’t wait for the next instalment in the Ace’s series, Grease’s story.

Review: Finding Cinderella

Finding Cinderella Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is such a dream of a novella which follows on from Hopeless and Losing Hope and centres around Sky’s friend, Six and Holder’s friend, Daniel.

It’s hard to review this book without giving too much away. It covers the period before and after Six’s time in France. After an impromptu meeting in a dark room, neither knowing who the other is, Six and Daniel give each other an hour of love they both want and deserve but have been unable to find in their own lives.

A year later, they are reunited but neither recognises the other and their story begins. This is a sweet book of tender love and heart break. I loved Six in the first books so it was such a treat to spend some more time with her and Daniel and also Sky and Holder. Daniel is comical and his nicknames for people are hysterical, especially his nickname for Sky!!! Six is Daniel’s perfect match and after “Val” Daniel becomes obsessed with Six especially knowing that she is the complete opposite of Val. The spend time together, against Holder’s wishes (!!!), and it’s not long before they admit their feelings for one another to their friends only to receive an unexpected response from them.

For the fans of Breckin, he’s back is part but in all his techno colour glory!

Review: Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes Ashes to Ashes by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I simply love this series and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. The relationship between Dex and Perry is perfect. I just love Perry’s insecurities and Dex’s boldness and brashness.

Now living together in Seattle, Dex and Perry embark on their next EiT adventure with ex-Wine Babe Rebecca for company this time. As expected, this book freaked the hell out of me. I know what to expect from these books but still haunted children did me in this time.

Perry and Dex are challenged with investigating an old sanatorium which has been re-opened as a school. The sanatorium, originally used as a closed facility for housing children suffering from TB holds the secrets to the children who now haunt the school. Following reports of strange goings-on, Perry and Dex and their trusty camera head to investigate in an attempt to record the strange reports.

Travelling back towards her home town, Perry knows the inevitable family visit is on the cards but first her and Dex must face the horrors of the sanatorium. Warned by Pippa once again, Perry presses ahead with the investigation and together with Dex they enter the school.

This book had me reading on the edge of my seat, I don’t think there is anything more powerful than your own mind and reading this at night was certainly not a good idea for me. Karine Halle excelled herself this time with her imagination and the book’s intensity continued throughout the book.

Dex and his quotes are once again out in force in this story and he adds a hint of much-needed humour to these stories. On the reverse side though, he shows immense sensitivity and even had me choked by the sweet things he says to Perry at times.
“From the moment I wake up to the moment I go asleep and even in my dreams. I don’t think about my past anymore. I only think about my future. And you’re my f***ing future.”
Perry once again seemed to be targeted by both her personal demons and those present in the ex-sanatorium.
“I was like the highly sought after call girl of the supernatural. A whore for the unhappily deceased.”
This book ends on another cliff hanger with a chance meeting that raises questions about where Dex and Perry will go next on their EiT adventures.
“To the things that hurts you most. To the paranormal and to never being normal.”

Secret Shared (Secret, #2)Secret Shared by L. Marie Adeline
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Copy received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, rapid summary: A S.E.C.R.E.T. society that aims to re-build women’s confidence by providing sexual fantasies with hot men. What isn’t there to like???? Add in a sexy love interest for each of the main characters and you have a delicious erotic romance story :)

I had not read the first book prior to starting S.E.C.R.E.T. Shared but I did not have any difficulty getting straight into this story. Although it would have been preferable to have read book one prior to starting this, the author did provide an in-depth summary of Cassie’s story to date to allow readers to read this as a stand-alone book if necessary.

This book focuses on the continuation of Cassie's story after she had completed her S.E.C.R.E.T. STEPS. Cassie now has to decide what happens to her next. Does she leave S.E.C.R.E.T. or continue on to another role within the organisation?

Dauphine is the next recruit requiring the help and assistance of the ladies of S.E.C.R.E.T. Having found her boyfriend in a compromising position with her best friend and who subsequently writes a book which has an indirect link to her, Dauphine wallows in her own self-pity for years before she comes across Cassie whose confidence with the opposite sex intrigues her. After disclosing her background and involvement with S.E.C.R.E.T. to Dauphine, Cassie becomes her Guide through her own STEPS.

Starting out on her journey through S.E.C.R.E.T., Dauphine faces her fears and conquers them whilst living her sexual fantasies until she questions one of the STEPS she is faced with and is forced to question whether she is willing to continue her S.E.C.R.E.T. experiences.

I really enjoyed this book so much that I will go and purchase the first book to live Cassie’s story in more detail.

This has got to be as close to being my book of the year as it gets!

Toombs and Jinx are amazing and their story truly rocks. Kendall Grey's writing skills are off the scale and this is possibly better than Strings but then again the stories are so different it's hard to compare them.

The story focuses on a complicated three way relationship and dare I say it, I felt sorry for Rax in the end despite his shocking behaviour. Toombs though steals the show <3

I gotta read this again, straight away!!!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love the Off series and couldn't wait for Off Course's release.

What can I say about Cillian *sigh*, a pierced, tattooed musician who is Irish. Girls, this one will have your heart racing!!!! With his tough guy exterior and heart of pure gold you're likely to fall in love with him before a quarter of the way through the book!

The story had a sensitive undercurrent which Ms Bennett handled well and gave the book a thought provoking edge to it.

I can't wait for the final story in this series. I will miss interacting with Sawyer over each new hot alpha male she introduces to us in the Off series but no doubt I will find her other books as equally captivating. Keep up the good work Sawyer.

Rock Bottom Rock Bottom by Jade C. Jamison
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ethan is back and boy was he missed!!!

Ethan’s story continues after his most recent drug induced outburst has caused him to loose his wife, Val, to his best friend, Brad. His drug addiction has consumed him and everything around him and Ethan knows that if he wants to turn his life around and to save his band he needs to find help and quickly.

Having been referred to Soaring Free,a drug and alcohol support group, Ethan meets Jenna, a drug and alcohol counsellor who also happens to run Soaring Free. Instantly attracted to her no nonsense attitude Ethan hits her with his tried and tested flirtatious attitude. Although attracted to him and his outrageously sexy proposals, Jenna remains true to her beliefs and offers him no more than one-to-one counselling. Not used to rejection, Ethan soon realises that his feelings for Jenna run deep and he sets about trying to get her to admit that see too has feelings for him.

The story is passionate and heart-warming but it also shows the power of depression. Everyone has suffered depression at one time in their lives but it’s hard to imagine depression on a scale where your only option is to numb yourself in order to live day by day and yet clinical depression is faced by so many people in all walks of life.

I simply can’t wait for the next book in the Bullet series, Jet’s story is one I really need to read!!!

Bold Tricks Bold Tricks by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow, I can’t believe this fabulous series is over although I am over the moon to hear that Karina Halle is taking some of the characters into a spin off series. More of Derek, Este etc would be very nice, thank you very much!

Following on from Ellie and Camden being rescued from the clutches of Travis by Javier, the unlikely threesome work together towards helping Ellie to find Gus and her parents. Javier, always with his own agenda, leads Camden and Ellie to Travis with the aim of taking over the powerful cartel for himself. Ellie is still seeking revenge for Travis’ brutal attack on her as a child but Ellie’s greatest wish is to find Gus and to enjoy a quiet life with Camden and his son, Ben. That is once they manage to get Ben away from Sophia and away from the Madano family.

Still on the Team Cam and Team Javier fence, I found myself continually switching sides throughout the story. Cam is still struggling to forgive Ellie for falling into bed with Javier again and fighting his feelings for Ellie tries to switch off his emotional attachments to her. Ellie knows that her love for Camden is all that matters and she does everything in her power to make him forgive her. Javier obviously still has feelings, of sorts, for Ellie although you’re never quite sure if his intentions are honourable where Ellie is concerned or if ultimately he is simply using her for his own gain.

If there ever was a book series which should be made into a movie then it is this one. The storyline is delicious but twisted at the same time. The lives of the cartel are violent and soon Ellie and Camden find themselves having to kill or be killed themselves.

The story is fast paced and I just couldn’t put the book down until I knew how it ended. By the time I reached the end of the book my insides were twisting and Karina Halle does an amazing job of drawing raw emotions out of you, even if I could have done without the emotional turmoil at the end.

This is still my all-time favourite book series and one I would encourage everyone to read.

Well that leaves just one matter outstanding and the answer is TEAM CAM!!!!

Wow, what a follow up to Sins & Needles, probably my all time favourite book.

Heart breaking at leaving Camden behind with his family, Ellie's future is uncertain especially with Javier one again controlling her every move.

The story is fast paced and is once again ruthless in the ride it offers readers. You are torn between wanting Javier to show he is human and that his love for Ellie is unconditional or hoping that Ellie will escape his clutches to return once again to the man who has loved her since he was a boy.

The story continues around the hatred Ellie has for Travis the man who stole her childhood and her wish for revenge but at what cost will this revenge have on her life.

I can't wait for the next instalment.

Review: One to Keep

One to Keep One to Keep by Tia Louise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed “One to Hold” so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this arc of “One to Keep”.

“One to Keep” is a contemporary romance and tells the story of “One to Hold” from Patrick’s side and you finally get to read about all the glorious and juicy goings on between him and Elaine while Derek and Melissa were pre-occupied in “One to Hold”.

In “One to Keep” you are introduced to Patrick from his first meeting with Derek. He has recently split from his ex-fiancé and is finding life post Stacy difficult to stomach especially while he still bears the tattoo of her name on his arm. At a local tattoo parlour he arranges to remove Stacy from his life once and for all but in doing so, Patrick meets Kenny and arranges to take her on a date. After getting drunk and enjoying each other’s company, Kenny and Patrick go their separate ways but having formed a bond, decide to keep in touch.
“I’d wasted a lot of time being the nice guy, the rule-follower, and I’d had my heart punted like a damn football for it.”
Back at the office, Patrick manages to make yet another mistake after falling into the arms, or mouth, of someone who he assumes is the new office temp. Realising his mistake, Patrick decides to change his ways but first he needs to find out exactly who Star is and why she had targeted him before disappearing.

It was during a business trip to Arizona that Patrick meets Elaine Merritt. Struggling to maintain his new mantra of “all work, all work”, Patrick becomes spellbound with her and the two spend the rest of their time in the desert enjoying each others company.
“And in walked Elaine Merritt like a stealth bomb straight to the heart.”
As you can probably guess, it’s not all flowers and hearts for Patrick and Elaine and some twists and turns happen to raise the question as to whether their relationship and love will survive all that is thrown at them.
“I want your eyes on me.” She kissed my lips lightly. “I want your thoughts on me. Only me. All the time.”
I was partly expecting this book to be just a mirror image of “One to Keep” but it wasn’t. Yes there were some parts which reflected the storyline in “One to Keep” but this story is so much more. Although there are twists and turns they are not very in-depth and don’t keep you on the edge of your seat for too long.

If you like your sweet easy to read contemporary romance books with HEAs then this is definitely the book for you.

Review: One to Hold

One to Hold One to Hold by Tia Louise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

ARC received from the author in return for an honest review.

As soon as I saw the blurb about this book “Derek Alexander is an ex-Marine, ex-cop, and the top investigator in his field. Melissa Jones is a small-town girl trying to escape her troubled past.” I was sold!!! Who doesn’t like an ex-military hot and sexy alpha male and Derek certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Melissa comes across Derek whilst on a spa break. Unhappy with her own life, Melissa soon falls for Derek and after spending the week together they must decide whether to accept their feelings for one another or leave their relationship behind in the desert.

This is Tia Louise’s debut novel and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed it. She is a talented writer and it was so nice to read a book without spelling and grammatical errors in it. The story was well balanced and didn’t leave the reader with any questions unanswered. The story built slowly but wasn’t in the least frustrating. The characters were straightforward and uncomplicated and, for a change, I wasn’t left shouting at them from the side-lines!

This is a standalone book (big tick) and it has a HEA (bigger tick) although I can’t wait to read Patrick and Elaine’s story.

Review: Unexpected Angel

Unexpected Angel Unexpected Angel by Sloan Johnson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I, perhaps stupidly, decided to start reading this book during the night when I couldn't sleep. Big mistake!!!! From page 1 I was glued to the story and didn't put the book down until the end. I'll probably regret spending 4 hours reading when I should have been sleeping but I certainly won't regret reading this book.

I'd read reviews about this book from friends, which I don't normally do, before starting to read it and was expecting good things and I was not disappointed. Personally, I think Sloan Johnson got the balance of the book just right and the story was exciting and believable. I read that some people felt their should have been more steamy scenes in the book but I disagree and feel that the balance was perfect given Tasha's background. Dylan for me was perfect and more likeable as a Dom than some other characters you read about who appear to be artificially enhanced by the authors.

I can't wait for book 2 in the Isthmus Alliance. Well done Sloan Johnson <3

Review: Nikolai

Nikolai Nikolai by S.L. Jennings
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love the Dark Light series and this Nikolai novella was such a delicious treat from SL Jennings. I couldn’t help but read it non-stop and it was beyond fabulous. SL Jennings portrayed Nikolai in such a perfect way. We saw both sides of his character and after initially being repulsed by his behaviour you can’t help but fall in love with him in the end. The developing relationship with Amelie was touching and simply magical.

I loved SL Jennings’ comment at the conclusion of the story, it was as if she was reading my mind. I reluctantly agreed with her rationale for the way the story ended although my pouty lips remained in place!!!!

If you haven’t experienced the Dark Light series you really should even if paranormal isn’t normally the genre for you. SL Jennings is such a talented writer and you can’t help but get swept away by her stories and the characters she creates.

Review: Dirty Angels

Dirty Angels Dirty Angels by Karina Halle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I always said I was team Javier and this book demonstrates why this man, this bad, bad man, is just so damn loveable.

Time has moved since Ellie left Javier behind and now running his cartel without a love interest to distract him, he is back to his cold blooded ways. He is still plotting and planning in order to extend his empire and to do that he needs to control the lucrative shipping lane known as the Ephedra. This lane is currently under the control of Salvador Reyes though and Javier targets his weakness, or so he thinks, his wife, Luisa.

Luisa has been living a poor life, working to support her frail parents when she catches Salvador's attention whilst working in Cabo Cocktails. Knowing that her family would be taken care of if she accepts his marriage proposal she reluctantly agrees to become his wife but assuming that he will take care of her and protect her she is horrified when she becomes his toy as he abuses, debases and humiliates her by sharing her amongst his men. When she attempts to make a break for her freedom though and is kidnapped, little does she expect to fall into the arms, and bed, of Javier Bernal.

Salvador has 7 days to reply to Javier's ransom demands but during that time, Javier becomes enamoured by Luisa's strength and beauty.

The story continues with Javier and Luisa slowly falling for each other but knowing they can never be together, Luisa knows she will either be returned to Salvador or killed.

I loved this book so much. Having been a fan of the Artists Trilogy and pretty much everything else Karina Halle has written this for me was a perfect way to end the Christmas holidays. This was face paced and dark and brought to life the cruelties and horrors of the narcos and their lives. A brilliant book.

I can't wait to read Alana's story, Javier's sister is bound to have an exciting tale to tell!!!
