5+++ Star Review: A Pack of Vows and Tears by Olivia Wildenstein

This really is the most amazing shifter series. It has drama, suspense, twists and turns and above all, a complicated love triangle between Ness, Liam, and August. The story continues to fascinate and dominate my thoughts and I really can’t wait for the next instalment.

Having loved reading A Pack of Blood and Lies, I listened to the audiobook before starting APoVaT. This added further depth to my overall reading experience and I will definitely do the same before book 3.

For me, the strength of the story lies in the detail and the fact it’s not “just another shifter book”. It feels different, it acts differently and it pulls you into the storyline with ease. This instalment had me an emotional wreck. The author wasn’t lying when she said Liam would break my heart.

Irresistible, thrilling and seductive. Bad Saint was oh so good!

This was my first book by Monica James and I absolutely loved it. Not being a huge fan of dark romance stories, I started Bad Saint with some trepidation but after a few pages, I immediately knew the story would easily outshine whatever darkness was to come. So often dark romance stories are all impact and no storyline but this was definitely not the case with Bad Saint.

This story unwittingly falls into two parts as the key protagonists get to know each other in a variety of different situations, environments and in delightfully unrestrained ways.

5 Star Review: Pretty Reckless by LJ Shen

I don't know what I was expecting from this book but it certainly wasn't that story! A flowery romance it wasn't but what it was was another fascinating study into the troubled minds of our favourite Todos Santos families.

I thought Daria was the most troubled character in the story then I realised that she was just one person amongst a sea of angst and heartbreak. What we initially witness in relation to Daria's behaviour is merely the tip of the iceberg and as the story progresses you come to see why she is the way she is and how her perfect life was torn down around her.

This is a really gritty, challenging story to read but it is fast paced, well written and captivating, despite the depravity, abuse, and bullying at its core. It's strange to say that you could love such a book but if you put your sensibilities aside, you will be able to enjoy the story for what it is, troubled youngsters fighting to understand their minds and bodies. Whoever said growing up was easy, it certainly isn't in Todos Santos.

3 Star Review: Bitter Rival by J. Sterling

Bitter Rival: an enemies to lovers romance by J. Sterling
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sadly, for me, this story left me wanting more, for all the wrong reasons. I loved the premise and the characters but the story seemed detached on an emotional level and felt more like a short story than a full-length novel. 

I wanted more depth from the story and given it was an enemies-to-lovers tale, there were very few hurdles for the protagonists to overcome - one point of clarification by James and all of the years of hate and mistrust were swept under the mat in the blink of an eye!

Personally, I would have liked to have seen James or Julia fight harder before becoming lovers. The book was easy to read though and was a relatively enjoyable quick, over in an evening, read.
