Siobhan Davis

I love finding new-to-me authors and Siobhan Davis is one such author and boy what an author she is. Ok, so I tend to only read books via Kindle Unlimited now and I'm usually on the lookout for high school bully romance books, especially if they have a side of reverse harem and that's how I came across Siobhan Davis and the The Sainthood - The Boys of Lowell High. This was quickly followed up by Rydeville Elite and The Kennedy Boys.

So, I probably haven't read these books in the recommended order, but I read and read and wanted more, and more. Siobhan's writing is wonderfully captivating and she draws you into her stories with ease.

The author's Irish roots feature heavily in some of her stories, especially Kennedy Brothers, which has the heroine hailing from Ireland. Kyler is dark, brooding and mysterious but boy does he love hard. Faye is a troubled girl from Ireland whose parents have recently died. The sparks when these two meet for the first time is off the charts but as cousins, what chance do they have at finding their HEA.

By comparison, Rydeville Elite is a darker story and despite the odd Kennedy brother mention, is clearly a series in its own right. It has dramatic twists and turns which takes the bully element to a whole new level. The heroine on this occasion isn't your typical school kid though and instead is a pawn in a dangerous game ran by her father and his associates.

The Sainthood – Boys of Lowell High was my crack though. This is a dark high school reverse harem romance series with enemies-to-lovers/bullying themes. This series was a 5 Star read all the way. Although this is not a true RH story, as the heroine definitely feels stronger for one love interest, there is no doubting the punch this story packs.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; The sparks when these two meet for the first time is off the charts but as cousins, what chance do they have at finding their HEA.

“He knows I’ve seen something in him. Something I recognize, only because it exists in me too.”

This book stole my heart. It’s one of the best rockstar romance books that I have EVER read.

The title sang to me. Reading it wasn’t a requirement it was a necessity and now its presence has left an indelible mark deep within me.

Alex is so perfectly complicated and literally came alive in front of my eyes. I suspect some readers will struggle with Alex's self-destructive personality, the way he sees the world and the way he reacts to the pressures he faces, but I see a brilliant artist who struggles on a daily basis to be accepted and to accept those around him.

He scarred me. I decorated him. But at the end of the day, we were both tainted by each other.

Controlled by “Suits”, Alex plays his management in the same way he plays his beloved Tania, with careful precision. He knows they dictate where he is to be, how he’s to behave and what is expected of him but little does he know, their control goes way beyond what he could imagine possible.

”Are you happy, Alex?”

“I’m an artist. My job is not to be happy. My job is to feel, to suffer, and to conjure the same feelings in others.”

Due to go on a world tour for three months, and needing Alex to remain sober and in control, the Suits arrange for a “nanny” to shadow his every move. That nanny is Indigo “Indie” Bellamy. Indie looks sweet and seemingly fragile enough to damage and that’s exactly what Alex sets out to do, break her and to send her home crying and into the arms of her dysfunctional family. What Alex doesn’t expect is her quiet determination to succeed and inner strength.

Like my dignity, Alex Winslow was a two-faced man. One was the cold, asshole devil he gave me now, the one who wanted me to kneel. The other was his playful, relaxed self.

With her family struggling financially, and her brother finding it difficult to overcome the loss of their parents, Indie is the glue that is holding everyone together. That glue before long is also felt by Alex as he starts to find that he needs her, if only for intimacy. What Alex doesn’t expect is for Indie to become his muse. Writing songs in a hotel corridor at midnight starts off relatively innocently enough but with Alex pressing every one of Indie’s buttons, she soon starts to waiver where her feelings for him are concerned.

Alex wanted into my pants. Lucas wanted into my life. And I wanted to get out of this tour alive and whole. Heart, body and soul.

With each tour stop, more of Alex and Indie’s personalities are revealed. In Moscow they start to get close, in London, they are practically dating, even if neither wants to accept their feelings towards one another, by Paris the sparks really start to fly but for all of the wrong reasons.

Everyone can-and does-see my scars. No exceptions. My soul is empty.

To Alex, Indie is like a shiny penny. Something that he must have, keep close and not share with anyone and that includes his bandmate Lucas, who Indie gets close to much to Alex’s annoyance. Where Indie is concerned, Alex is like a petulant child and sharing his muse is something that he's not prepared to do.

This story takes you on an atmospheric journey which captures a multitude of emotions. It’s poignant, heartbreaking, funny, sexy, and above all mesmerising and I can't recommend it strongly enough!

This ebook was kindly provided by the author prior to release in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I wasn’t sure how or if I would relate to Bren, having experienced her almost childish ways from Channing’s perspective. Then we meet her. I mean, we really meet her. We see what makes her tick, why she carries a knife, why she joined her crew, why her relationship with Channing is so fragile, why she relies on Cross, and why she became the Bren she is today. I cried for her when she couldn’t shed the tears herself. I wanted to fight with her, for the future she lost thanks to her father. And, I wanted to protect her, from herself and those intent on causing her harm.

This book really had it all. Yes, the crew life may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and yes, the whole book is set around Bren and her crew but it is so much more than just violence and scrapping. The story shows how four dysfunctional people became friends and why their loyalty to each other means more than life itself.

This book is poignant and heartbreaking in the way the story is portrayed. I was frustrated with the characters at times but that just made me more invested in the storyline. I really disagreed with Cross’s decision to put retribution before Bren towards the end of the story, and that point had me almost tearing my hair out but then I realised, these are young people shaped in a way that is different to most. They draw their strength from each other and could quite possibly fall apart without each other.

The boys are A-typical for their age group in the way they sleep around but that just makes them more loveable. That said, Cross and Bren’s connection was the complete opposite with them drawing comfort from each other’s presence way before their entanglement became romantic. The whole romance scene between them was extremely well written, thoughtful and tasteful, which I really appreciated.

I am sorry that some people didn’t connect with the story or the characters. For me, they are simply diamonds in the rough. Created from a force so great that makes them shine in their own special way.

This was an audiobook read for me and the narrator really did the story a huge justice in the way she portrayed the characters and brought the story to life. Maybe there’s a difference between the ebook and the audiobook, I don’t know. What I do know is that this story, although it started steadily, is one that will last with me for a very long time. I can’t wait to read/listen on in this series.

I've come out of my reviewing hiatus for Nicki Sosebee and all I can say is....

Well, we’re here, the last book in the sensational Nicki Sosebee series. It’s always sad to reach the conclusion of a long-running series and this one will be especially poignant for me.

After my rather *sorry* vocal disappointment of the preceding instalment, Wake Up, I decided to woman-up and re-read it in preparation for Front Page News, but this time, I managed to do it with an open perspective, just!

So, “the thing” happened in Wake Up, it was a big thing and it floored me but upon re-reading the story I actually managed to once again become involved in the mystery and suspense of the Nicki Sosebee series and to put aside my frustration.

The ongoing saga of whether Nicki will bring Winchester’s own crime lord and his many minions down has been the main focus of this series and her love interests have almost become a side-part of what makes Nicki, Nicki. I think I allowed myself to become too invested in wanting to see Nicki’s heart protected and somehow I lost my way with the slow burn of Nicki’s biggest story to date as it was developing. That, however, was soon corrected in Front Page News.

The start of Front Page News carries on immediately from the end of Wake Up so a re-read may be necessary if you can’t remember what lead to the cliff-hanger at the end of Wake Up. By contrast to the preceding instalment, Front Page News is all about the drama and how suddenly all the pieces of Nicki’s Winchester jigsaw are finally coming together. Nicki, and rightly so by this point in her investigations, is now highly paranoid of who she can and can’t trust but with Jesse at her side, she decides to step-up her investigations especially into “the thing” that happened in Wake Up and the story suddenly takes on an almost frantic feel to it as Nicki, and us as her devoted readers, desperately race with her towards the finish line in order to see if she manages to bring the “King” to his knees and to find out who, exactly, the mysterious “Blackie” really is.

The story hit a number of high notes for me. The suspense was riveting and hypnotic, the mystery became almost tangible as the story reached its conclusion and when it did, I was left reeling and with a smug sense of satisfaction. Now, whilst the story hit all the high notes with the mystery and suspense it did have a twist to its tail, quite literally, but for me, and I hate to say it, but it felt too staged (I’m sorry Jade). Yes, I wanted the mystery around “the thing” to be resolved and yes it was but the conclusion of the story felt rushed. I missed the warm tingly feeling I always felt around Nicki and her love interests and yet I was still pleased that my many questions were answered. Personally, I thought the ending was going in another direction which is possibly why I was thrown for a loop, again, but still, the story ended on a positive with all of my many questions answered. I would have liked to have read more about the downfall of the “King” but sadly this was glossed over. I would have also liked to have witnessed how other key players were brought down in order to revel in Nicki’s glory but the story jumped ahead in time and ended with the final nail being hammered into the King’s metaphorical coffin and Nicki’s Winchester crown sitting pretty atop her head.

One thing that really confused me was why were there so many Nathan’s in this book (Wright, Carpenter and Jr.!). Can you tell that I’ve become slightly too invested in this series? I have loved spending time with Nicki and I am so sad to see her story end (although I’m sure Jade is glad to see the back of her and all of the blood, sweat and tears she unwittingly set herself up for after creating such an amazing character).

To Jade C Jamison, I say “thank you” from the bottom of my heart for giving us Nicki Sosebee. I have loved her and I will miss her and I will be eternally grateful that you saw this series through to its conclusion and for giving Nicki’s fans a very happy finale to what was a fascinating series.

Aegle Reikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02258962772891589601noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2260135058402500310.post-31626715638023834002020-04-01T14:40:00.001+00:002021-01-26T16:04:36.957+00:00Reverse Harem Books

Siobhan Davis

Resurrection (The Sainthood - Boys of Lowell High Series #1)

Rebellion (The Sainthood - Boys of Lowell High Series #2)

Reign (The Sainthood - Boys of Lowell High Series #3)

Penelope Douglas

Credence

Auryn Hadley

The Kiss of Death (The Demons' Muse Series #1)

For Love of Evil (The Demons' Muse Series #2)

The Sins of Desire (The Demons' Muse Series #3)

The Lure of the Devil (The Demons' Muse Series #4)

The Wrath of Angels (The Demons' Muse Series #5)

Tate James

Hate (Madison Kate #1)

Liar (Madison Kate #2)

Fake (Madison Kate #3)

Kate (Madison Kate #4)

CM Stunich

Havoc at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys Series #1)

Chaos at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys Series #2)

Mayhem at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys Series #3)

Anarchy at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys Series #4)

Victory at Prescott High (The Havoc Boys Series #1)

Aegle Reikihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02258962772891589601noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2260135058402500310.post-23777279848831708942020-03-09T11:34:00.001+00:002020-03-09T11:36:39.193+00:00Review: Birthday Girl

This has to be right up there with my all-time favourite reads. The story had everything that I hoped for!

This, as seen in the blurb, is another delicious forbidden romance from Penelope Douglas. The sexual relationship between the key protagonists was incredibly slow to develop but it picked up quite a pace once the reins were released. Pike was the perfect partner to complement Jordan and despite her young age and relative innocence, her character was penned in a way that came across as much older than her years.

Despite being her boyfriend's father, Jordan finds herself spending more time with Pike as her Cole distances himself from her and their life together. When she realises that their relationship is over Jordan once again finds herself facing more impossible situations but the ever-reliable Pike is there to offer her support and friendship.

The way the developing relationship between Pike and Jordan was written allowed readers the chance to come to terms with their love affair and although they both resisted it, it was Jordan who came to her senses first and realised that there was nothing that they couldn't overcome if they handled their relationship carefully. Unfortunately for her, Pike found accepting their romantic feelings for one another more difficult and delayed the inevitable talk with his family and it was that delay which brought about the biggest fight of his life.

This was definitely a story to love and it was made even more enjoyable via Audible.

This was another extremely well-written story by Tara Leigh and you could really feel the author’s blood, sweat and tears, from start to finish.

From the first page, I cherished the story of young Poppy and Gavin. The bond they formed through their hardships was incredibly sweet and when that friendship turned to love, their connection felt complete. That is until it was time for them to go to college.

Told in three parts, this story covers Poppy’s childhood, college years and early adult years. The problem with telling books over a number of years is that the storylines tend to jump around a bit, well, it’s either that or the story resembles War and Peace! Whilst the first part of this story was to die for, I loved young Gavin and Poppy, the later stages felt a little sour for my taste, probably due to the unpleasant sequence of events which plays out.

This was romantic suspense which covered a number of sensitive topics and readers will no doubt feel every moment of Poppy’s pain as she grows up. I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Poppy though but could appreciate her need to better herself after growing up with nothing. I struggled with how she accepted Tucker back into her life after what happened between them and feeling that she had never really recovered from “that night”, she still allowed him to play a huge part in her early adult years just so she didn't have to do without ever again.

For me, the epilogue seemed a little strange, and whilst I can see the author trying to wrap up Poppy and Gavin’s story, and to give readers more of the sweet that I loved during their younger years, I ended up skimming over most of the ending but, hey, who doesn’t love a second-chance romance!

This story was freakin fantastic, in a dark, sadistic and utterly disturbing way!

Boy, can LJ Shen write. Her stories are always entertaining but her words make her stories utterly breathtaking. Nothing seems to phase her, be it a difficult or daunting storyline or just A-holes, as is the case with the Spencer men.

It seems a while now since we endured the pleasures that Vicious bestowed upon us but he certainly created a new monster in his son, Vaughn. Right from the outset, Vaughn is cold, calculating and downright malicious towards his nemesis, Lenora Astalis.

Despite growing up together and being jointly moulded towards their destinies, they are worlds apart when it comes towards relationships. As children, Vaughn bullied Lenora, as adolescents, Lenora turned the table and started biting back. By the time they are at college together the gloves are off and what was once idle resentment towards each other explodes into something far more sinister.

The magic to this story is the secret that is revealed as you read on. Vaughn is has become the man he has for a reason and, for once, that reason is not his father. Despite her love/hate relationship with the idea of Vaughn, Lenora starts to unpeel his many, damaged layers and eventually manages to find the human being that she longed for beneath his abusive demeanour.

The story was dark but it was also sublime. Both characters were 100% endearing despite their cold and calculated ways. The essence of the story was heartbreaking but also rewarding. When you combine these many fascets you have a story that will reward you for your perseverance in a way that no other could.

Via Audible, this story was brought to life in such a way that made the story even more amazing. The narrators did a fantastic job and must be commended for the part they played in making what is a truly exceptional book.

Another quick but no less enjoyable story in the Arizona Vengeance series.

After Tacker's story, which I had been desperate to read, I wasn't sure if another story would hold my interest but after being teased about Dominik and Willow's interactions, I knew reading on was not an option!

Willow was a really intriguing character especially as she appears to be the only woman to be not interested in Dominik or his good looks, wealth, success and charismatic ways. Willow's reticence to have anything other than the odd one night stand with Dominik perplexes him and the more Willow ignores him, the more he chases after her.

Being a photojournalist and travelling to some of the most dangerous places on earth, Willow lives her life on a knife-edge but when she returns home to the US, she agrees to meet up with Dominik again. However, Willow has one thing on her mind and that's the opposite of what Dominik wants from her.

With Willow back on home soil, Dominik knows this is his only chance to win her over but when he finds out she has been badly burned in a relationship before he accepts that in order to make her fall for him he must take his time. That is until he doesn't!

I really enjoyed Willow and Dominik's connection and I must admit to being a sucker for Dominik all through this series. I became slightly irritated when Dominik's willingness to take his time with Willow did an about-turn but even then, with emotion and passion driving him forward and in the heat of the moment, he does the opposite of his intentions but in such a sweet way. Fortunately, Willow finds herself in a situation which makes her re-evaluate her life and Dominik is able to fly in to save the day.

This is the first story in this series that I've listened to via Audible and whilst the experience was enjoyable, I think I prefer reading these stories at my own pace. The narrators, whilst clearly experienced, seemed to rush through their words and were almost gabbling at times. Even slowing down the talking speed didn't help, sadly.

I am so pleased to see that there is yet another book planned in this amazing series as I am in no way ready to be done with the Arizona Vengeance.
Oh Trip, you just melted my heart!

I loved this story so much, despite the pain and suffering. Kelsey and Trip were fantastic characters and they were set up perfectly in the first instalment so much so that I was almost salivating waiting to read their story.

Trip is your typical larger-than-life-ladies-man and Kelsey is a hopeless romantic, always looking for love and desperately wanting to settle down, get married and have babies. With the duo poles apart with their outlook on life, you'd be forgiven for thinking that they could never get together but you know what they say about opposites attract!

Despite Trip's womanising ways, he has a soft spot for Kelsey and does his best to ensure that she doesn't get hurt, despite promising her nothing more than a casual relationship until she finds Mr Right.

As time goes by and their sexual relationship moves on, the two become closer but only Kelsey is aware that her fondness for Trip is turning into love. Trip on the other hand, apart from being exclusive with Kelsey, has no idea that his heart has become irrevocably joined to Kelsey's until they break apart and the separation is incredibly emotional.

We finally get to find out a little more about Trip's background and why he is reluctant to talk about his family in this story and when his brother comes to town, sparks really start to fly.

Once again, this was a really enjoyable story to listen to. It was lighthearted, despite the pain that Kelsey and Trip suffered, and nicely set the scene for Emma's story.

What's not to love with this story. There's snow, romance, drama, and heartbreak!

Another KU & Free to Listen To book series and having read one of the author's books before I knew this would be another hit with me.

These stories are easy to listen to, have fun characters to be around, exciting storylines with lots of drama and angst, if that's what rocks your boat. For me, I can do without angst and some of this story was drawn out because of it but add it to the rest of the package and this could be overlooked.

This story is about physical therapist Avery Randall and Grey Lowell. When the two see each other across a bar and Grey coins the name "Bambi" for Avery, I guess all bets were off about their possible relationship but with Avery's friend Kelsey clearly having designs on Grey following a drunken kiss, Avery knows that she must deter the attraction she felt for Grey. Assuming that she will not see Grey again and with any hopes of a date with the man clearly on the back burner, her life is turned upside down when Grey is knocked off his bike after leaving the bar and is injured by none other than Avery's brother, Andy.

With Grey the best and only PT in town at that time, she finds herself in a dilemma. Does she treat the man who has a claim against her brother? That's ignoring the fact that they are clearly attracted to each other!

Inevitably, Avery finds herself in an impossible situation as she falls for Grey. Between hurting her brother, family and her friend, Avery is torn between wanting to explore what she has with Grey and not alienating her family. Add to the mix that Grey could take her home in order to cover his costs following the accident and with Andy's possible prison sentence, it's a miracle Avery doesn't have a breakdown.

What makes it harder to see through this nightmare is that Andy is a really nice guy and seeing the effect of his getting drunk and knocking Grey off his bike is heartbreaking to witness but with Grey unable to work and run his ski-expedition company Backtrax, Andy knows that he is facing long term troubles which will not only affect him but Avery as well.

As expected, when Avery and Grey's relationship becomes known, Avery finds herself in an even bigger dilemma as she decides who to side with: her family or the man she loves and hopes to have a future with.

As you can see, this is drama-ville with problems on top of problems for poor Avery and Grey but will they find a way to resolve all of their differences without one losing everything they have worked hard for?

Despite the tension throughout the story, this was a really enjoyable read. The pace was about right and the story captivating, if slightly exhausting at times. Talk about a hard-fought-for HEA! Next up is the enigmatic Trips, story and his fight to find love, with Kelsey of all people.

Despite my rather hesitant approach to book 1, I found myself quite enjoying book 2 and Myra and Todd's story.

With witch Grainna still determined to break the curse placed on her by the ancient druids and in need of a virgin in order to regain her youth etc, the MacCoinnich's know that they must keep Myra safe. With only one option open to her, the family prepare Myra to travel to the present day with instructions to meet up with Tara's sister and nephew. With a plan to fake amnesia, Myra is questioned by the police following her mysterious appearance and that's when Officer Todd Blakely's life steps into preternatural realms as he becomes close to Myra and finds a need to protect her.

Todd and Myra soon fall for each other and with love comes trust and slowly Myra reveals her story to Todd. Todd, understandably, finds Myra' story impossible to believe but as he continues to investigate the disappearance of Tara and Gwen (as she is known in the present day), he comes to realise that Myra's story is true, if still unbelievable.

When Myra returns home Todd is devastated but her return is not the end of the story or their romance. With Grainna still on a mission to return to Rennaisance Scotland, Todd finds himself once again fighting to protect Myra and her family and this fight takes him to Scotland and once again into the arms of Myra.

I have come to love the characters in this series and I will definitely be reading on further in order to see what happens to the playboy brother, Finlay, and his explosive connection with Tara's sister, Lizzie.

I have to say, time-travelling Scottish druids who have come from the 16th century to meet present-day druid virgins was a bit too close to my limit with a book theme but I actually did enjoy the story and the characters.

As always, the story was very well written. It was a bit too close to insta-love but if you remember the pull of the druid magic then you can almost believe it possible.

The story started off almost comical with Cassy and Tara bumbling their way through a renaissance faire but when the gypsy Gwen correctly determines Tara to be a virgin, Tara and Cassy find themselves at the forefront of the celebrations. Tara, becoming increasingly unhappy with the amount of unwanted attention from the men looking to deflower her, finds herself hiding from the festivities and that's when Duncan finds her.

Duncan is challenged with making sure Gwen or Grainna is unable to lift her curse through Tara but in trying to stay ahead of the witch/gypsy, he finds himself hand-bound/married to Tara which means she must return to his home in 16th Century Scotland with him.

Once in Scotland Tara is devastated to find out she will not return home or see her friends and family again but with time, she finds herself beginning to fall for Duncan and his family.

As expected, the drama doesn't end with Tara's arrival in Scotland as Gwen/Grainna sets about tracking Tara down once again and Tara turns to the druids for help.

As I said, this is a bit far-fetched but it is a nice story with a little bit of humour, some drama and a healthy dose of romance.

I really wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I'm not a fan of books about angels but knowing how much I enjoy Olivia Wildenstein's works I was prepared to give it a go.

Firstly, as I said, angels are not my thing so the title initially put me off. Then, readers are presented with a long list of angelic terminology and french translations which was slightly concerning. I imagined having the flick back and forth to understand what was going on in the storyline but that wasn't the case, apart from some the of angel terminology, which I needed to revisit on the odd occasion.

As soon as I started reading the story I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised and found that I became quickly engrossed. The direction the story was taking was fascinating and the blend of earth and Elysium and how both sides overlapped was intriguing.

The character Leigh (don't get me started on how to pronounce her name) was likeable and her desire to earn enough feathers to ascend to Elysium seemed to be the main crux to the story. When she is challenged to convert a triple (a sinner worth 100 feathers), Jarod Adler, her innocent way of life is corrupted by his beguiling ways and they find themselves instantly attracted to each other (perhaps too instantly for some to believe). Jarod is a mafia boss and yet Leigh decides to try to persuade him to right some wrongs in order for her to complete her task and to earn her remaining feathers. Jarod is not an easy man to change though and whilst spending time together, Leigh starts to realise that Jarod may be hiding more than his dark business dealings.

I enjoyed Jarod and Leigh's story on earth but when it became a bit too much Romeo & Juliet-y I started to lose interest (I know, but I rarely read the blurb about a book before reading it!). I can't put my finger on when my interest with the story started to wane but the ending pretty much left me confused and disappointed. When Leigh reached Elysium it was a brief affair and I thought Asher would play a bigger part than he did at the start of the book. I naively envisioned a love triangle but that never transpired.

The story left me questioning what exactly had just happened and wondering if I paid enough attention whilst reading it. That said, I don't feel the need to re-read it at this point. It has left me intrigued whether the next instalment will answer some of the questions Feather has left me with but that seems to be Celeste's story. I will no doubt read on though, even if just to recover my equilibrium.

Whilst this story was once again very well written, it hasn't left me with a thirst for more feathers!
