Keeping 6 (Rock Point, #1)Keeping 6 by Freya Barker
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Freya Barker has a real talent for creating characters that you immediately warm to. Without having met these characters before, having not read the earlier books linked to them, I didn’t find any difficulty in immersing myself in their story. Both Kerry and Damian are extremely likable characters and their developing relationship was refreshingly unique.

Review: Guilty Sin

Guilty Sin Guilty Sin by Chelle Bliss
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I love Chelle’s writing and storytelling but this story, despite my love of the characters, has left me feeling quite frustrated, and not in a good way, despite the sexual chemistry and overall heat factor!

Ret is definitely a not so guilty secret of mine. When paired with his father, Bear, and Fran, their family dynamic is off the charts and extremely funny. Despite loving the start of the book and the involvement of some good old ALFA friends, the storyline quickly started to unravel. It became clear as soon as Nya moved in with Ret and Alese where the story was headed and the insta attraction and acceptance by Alese, in particular, seemed all too easy. Then, wondering where the story was to head next and whether Nya’s demons would come back for her, the story took a really unexpected and sad turn before the scene ended very abruptly. The reason for this was explained at the end of the book when the author admits to re-working the storyline to avoid upsetting her readers. Whilst I appreciate acting on a Beta’s suggestions is a common occurrence, in this instance, the change in the storyline came at a consequence to the overall feel of the book and the story it was portraying was sadly lost.

Part of this story also felt eerily familiar (view spoiler) and a little forced. I don’t know if the author was struggling with a concept for this book, apart from the menage scenes which were clearly planned from the outset, but the background story just felt a little lumpy.

Despite my misgivings, I still quite liked the book and the characters, but it has left me feeling very discombobulated! I would really love a do-over involving these characters with a slightly more suspenseful and captivating storyline.
