This series is one of the best that I have ever read. Yes, there are some weird and wonderful creatures added to the storyline which some may think are a step too far from the norm, but despite this, the storyline and the way Kate Daniels managed to bring everyone together to fight for the common good was a real treat to behold. The books have their own special blend of humour, entertainment and romance. The romantic pairings are loveable and you can't help to hold them in a special place in your heart.
As expected, the Roland storyline has reached its conclusion. Added into the mix this time is a dragon with the power to bring the whole of Atlanta to its knees. With Kate's magical powers growing day by day she is now a feared adversary but for Neig, she is merely a means to an end.
The conclusion to the story, and series, provides readers with one of the most epic scenes to date and I must admit to holding my breath for all of the characters we have come to love.
I did cry at the end of the book, the series, and for everything that the author has given readers to date. It may be the end but Kate Daniels will never die.

I always have insanely high expectations when it comes to LM Halloran’s books. From my first taste of her writing in Breaking Giants, I knew I’d finally found an author who, unwittingly, ticked all of my boxes when it comes to my reading sensibilities. Knowing that I had put the author on an almost insurmountable pedestal, I tentatively read another of her works. This next book was also like a breath of fresh air and I realised that she was most definitely not a one trick pony. With each subsequent book, I found myself savouring each and every word the author had written, even in genres and tropes that I tend to avoid.
When I heard about, and read the synopsis for, the Illusions Duet, I knew the story was bound to be another resounding success. When I read the first chapter in the author’s reader group, I was left in a state of unrest awaiting the anticipated review copy to arrive in my inbox.
From the start of the book, I did something very rare for me. I read the book non-stop cover to cover. I am not a patient person and can easily become sidetracked but surprisingly, I found myself 100% entranced by the characters and the storyline.

This really was a book of two halves.
From being excited to read it to then feeling that it was slightly too familiar to certain other well-known stories, suddenly something, probably Theo, locked onto me and was not prepared to let me go (or maybe it was the other way around!).
Theo’s back story is similar to a certain other well-known alpha male but at the same time, it’s totally different in a way that I found more thought-provoking and genuine. I could sympathise with Theo and his behaviour, despite him being a ticking time bomb 99% of the time in a way that I never could with CG. I hate comparing the two characters but that’s what the book made me do, at first.
Having read the first quarter of the book, I’ll admit to being tempted to move on to something else. The story was initially difficult to get into and it felt too predictable thus spoiling my enjoyment and my much-needed feeling of suspense/drama/intrigue. Then, the story seemed to do an about turn. The theme remained unchanged but something clicked and before I knew it, I was 100% invested in the story and its characters.
