4 Star Review: Wicked Knight by Sawyer Bennett

Wicked Knight (Wicked Horse Vegas #5)
by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sawyer Bennett has a real talent for leaving her readers satisfied and yet wanting more. Am I ready to say goodbye to the Wicked Horse Vegas series? Hell no, and yet I feel oddly contented that I’ve experienced all that this series has had to offer.

Asher’s story was just what I was looking for and offers readers the perfect mix of romance and naughtiness. I loved that Asher’s love interest was his cleaner and that she had an abundance of confidence and sass. Hannah’s first word in the story was “fuck” and that summed up her character perfectly.

Although Asher was only looking for a partner for one night at his sex club, and perhaps the way he blackmailed persuaded Hannah into going along with him would make a Puritan’s head spin, for me that was just what I would expect from a dominant alpha male in a Sawyer Bennett book. From the minute Hannah broke Asher’s £75k vase, her future was irrevocably tied to his.
Look up the word “gorgeous” in the dictionary… there’d be a picture of Asher Knight. Put “gorgeous” in any online thesaurus, and all that would pop up would be picture after picture of the man.
Hannah is not without her fair share of problems. With an uncompromising ex who has primary custody of their daughter, Hannah works three jobs just so she can save enough to challenge the residency agreement. With that in mind, Hannah has no option but to accept Asher’s offers, although spending time around a man like Asher was never going to be a hardship for Hannah. Time together at the club soon turns into time together in Asher’s apartment and before long Asher is conflicted over his feelings for Hannah. She is everything that he wants in a woman, despite having a young daughter in tow.

Even though she is paid well to look after Asher’s every need, Hannah wants more from life and a respectable job is what she is aiming for especially if she has any chance of getting custody of Hope. What Hannah doesn’t expect is for Asher to become her Knight in every sense of the word as he steps in to help Hannah to get her daughter back from her ex. Asher is determined in all aspects of his life and will do everything in his power to make her happy, even if that means sacrificing his time with Hannah so she can spend more time with her daughter.

Hannah has one more secret that she is yet to share with Asher and it's one that he has difficulty coming to terms with when he finally finds out. Is Asher’s past about to rear its ugly head again and if so, would he be able to survive the pain again?

This was such a poignant story on so many levels. Yes, essentially it’s about a kink cub but as with all of the books in this series, the characters make the story so much more. I loved little Hope’s contribution to the story as much as I enjoyed Asher and Hannah’s exploits. As with all good books, readers are treated to a turbulent storyline which pulls on your heartstrings just before giving you that seemingly elusive HEA. My only slight reservation about this book was that the author once again glossed over aspects of the story which could have made the book even more rounded and complete and this left me feeling disheartened for what could have been an even greater read. That said, this was definitely a memorable book and the perfect conclusion to such a rewarding series.

He never wanted to be anyone’s hero…

Asher Knight is tall, dark, and wickedly handsome. He’s also irrevocably broken. Submerging himself in long hours at work by day and debauchery at The Wicked Horse by night, Asher uses work and play to numb the pain and guilt he feels over the death of his wife. What isn’t satisfied with one will surely be resolved by the other. At least that’s how he’s survived the last few years.

Hannah Madigan works three jobs just to make ends meet. Beat down by life, not to mention a cheating husband who was unfairly awarded custody of their daughter, Hannah is determined to make a better life for herself and get her kid back. But with pressures mounting and one costly mistake that leaves her owing Asher a huge debt, Hannah is as close as she’s ever come to throwing in the towel.

She’s given a golden opportunity…

Determined to stay the course by any means necessary, Hannah accepts an unusual proposal from Asher. He’ll give her a job. She’ll give him her body. Sounds easy, right? Until she realizes she needs his help more than she’s willing to admit. And he finds her adding to his life in ways he never wanted to accept.

This wicked knight may just learn that sometimes saving someone else means allowing yourself to be saved in return.
