My Time in the Affair My Time in the Affair by Stylo Fantome
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a simply beautiful and breathtaking story and one which is firmly placed in my all time top 10 favourite reads.

This book was extremely well written and the story was the complete opposite of what I expected. The cover said sweet contemporary romance and whilst it was, there was also intrigue, suspicion and heartbreak as the story crosses countries and continents as the characters fight to find their HEAs.

If you don't like stories about cheating then don't even pick this book up. Whilst telling the story of an affair, it is not wholly about selfish, gratuitous feelings but more of hope in the face of desperation as Mischa tries to find a way out of a loveless marriage. Whilst the way she went about it is wrong, and acknowledged so by the writer in the story, it is a portrayal of possibilities beyond the four walls of a perceived perfect marriage.

I was drunk on him. High on him. I wanted to swallow him down, inhale him, inject him. I wanted him to live under my skin and change my DNA. I wanted to live in his air and breathe his passion.

Given the opportunity to head to Italy for work, Mischa quickly sees this as an opportunity to experience more out of life. With a plan for a one night stand; a quick release in order to feel again, Mischa doesn't expect what she finds in Tal. Saving her from herself, he quickly assumes the role of lover and gives Mischa everything she ever wanted from her husband, and more.

“They have a word especially for people like me,” Tal said softly, reaching out and wiping her tears away. “And what word is that?” “Lover.”

Whilst you expect the story to meander between these two characters as they find themselves in each other you wonder where the plot will head to and then you take a journey down an completely unexpected path into one of deceit, violence and corruption as Mischa quickly realises that her business trip isn't what she expected it to be.

Mischa was supposed to just be a good time. A challenge, a dare, a dirty secret.

As expected, once the affair becomes public, Mischa's husband doesn't take the news well and Mischa's story becomes one of heartbreak as she is spurned by her friends and family. Eventually with Tal’s charms and easygoing way about him, Mischa's friends and family, and even her ex-husband, come to realise that what they have is more than simply a frivolous affair.

Come find me.

It's been awhile since I've wanted to re-read a story straight away and that's how I have been left feeling after finishing this book. It blew me away with the strength of the storyline, the characters and the emotion it portrayed. My Time In The Affair has left me wanting so much more from this amazing writer.
