Touch Me Not (Manwhore, #1)Touch Me Not by Apryl Baker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What do you get when you cross a manwhore with a prude? A beautiful story of love in the face of adversity of course!

Just when life can’t get any more difficult for Lily, who is in love with her best friend Adam and unable to verbalise or act on her feelings towards him, Nikoli, the local manwhore, sets his sights on her and despite the threats from everyone who knows and loves Lily, he is not to be deterred from achieving his target, to get Lily between the sheets.

Lily has become damaged by circumstance and this has resulted in her not being able to accept anyone’s touch or physical contact. With panic attacks at worst and a need to retreat at best, life hasn’t been easy for Lily and with Nikoli on the scene, she worries that she will be unable to keep him at arm's reach. That is until she realises that she has had enough and thanks to Nikoli’s persistence, she starts to see a way out of her darkness through his touch. With an endgame in mind, Lily agrees to work with Nikolai to try to overcome her phobia and bit by bit Nikoli works his magic on her and she starts to wonder if he may be the only person to help her conquer her phobia once and for all.

Despite their different backgrounds, Nikoli and Lily are surprised to realise that they have more in common than they expect and it’s not long before the two start to enjoy each other’s company, but from a physical distance in Lily’s case, initially.

I really enjoyed this NA story. From the synopsis, I knew I was about to read something a little different and it drew me in from the start. It was an easy story to read and the characters were thoroughly enjoyable. I loved the way the wallflower became the star in her own life as Nikoli and those around Lily came to realise that she is not all that she appears to be.

This is the first story by Apryl Baker that I have read and I would certainly read more NA from her. She has an easy writing style with a confident approach to her plot and storyline objectives. It’s not easy to find a path into NA and Apryl succeeded where many have failed with her imaginative and inspiring story.

At times I felt sections were speeded up unnecessarily. I don’t know if the author intended to stay within a certain word count but I would have welcomed a slower story development periodically. I guess it’s hard to balance a story to avoid it dragging on but, for me personally, this book would certainly have benefitted from a steadier approach to its conclusion.

All in all though this was a wonderful story which had me laughing at times and almost crying at others. From fast cars to gaming, this story has a little something for everyone.
