Friction (Legal Affairs)Friction by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you loved the Legal Affairs series, then you will find this story as equally enjoyable. Following different characters from opposing law firms this time, we get to meet a woman who will do anything to get her way, Leary Michaels, and the man set to challenge her, Reeve Holloway.

From the outset, it was apparent that this story was going to have a heavy theme and an even heavier law setting. With more of a legal focus and plenty of court time, we get to witness Leary and Reeve as they go head to head over a case which is both personal and heartbreaking for Leary. Reeve is determined to do his job though but as he gets closer to Leary, both professionally and personally, he soon finds out that there is more to this case than meets the eye.

After a teasing first introduction to the pair’s chemistry, the storyline quickly amps up their feelings for one another. With a connection charged by professional dominance, it is a surprise when it becomes clear that Leary is looking for a man to dominate her outside of the courtroom! The question is, is Reeve the man for the job?

Despite being a huge fan of the Legal Affairs series, this story didn’t pull me in as hard and at times I found my interest waning slightly but with such a powerful storyline and case, my interest was soon recaptured and I enjoyed the book to its conclusion. The relationship between Reeve and Leary was fascinating. Both strong and determined characters, it was soon evident that their connection would be explosive but with this particular case between them, any possible relationship could be doomed before it ever gets chance to blossom.

As ever with Sawyer Bennett’s books, this was an extremely well written story. With her legal experience at the heart of this series, the depth of her knowledge was blatantly apparent in her writing.

This story is supported amiably by a host of other intriguing characters, including Ford and Midge and I for one would love to hear Midge’s story. I bet she has a juicy tale or two to tell!

Thank you to the Author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
