Capture (Seaside Pictures, #1)Capture by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another brilliant story from an amazing author whose writing lights up the pages in front of your eyes as it entertains and leaves you with a lasting memory. With books spanning across a range of themes, Rachel Van Dyken’s Capture brings with it an element of surprise as some of our favourite characters, from her other works, make cameo appearances to add a little something extra to this already wonderful story.

From reading the synopsis, I thought this was going to be an emotional read but with Rachel Van Dyken's talent to bring humour into most situations I need not have been concerned. From the start, when we first meet Dani and the rest of the wonderful cast, we're thrust into a potential love affair as 17 year old, recently mute, Dani crashes straight into Lincoln who, unbeknownst to her, is her new employer thanks to her Hollywood movie star/director/brother-in-law, Jaymeson. Dani is immediately captured by Lincoln, in more ways than one, as she feels something in her heart that has been dormant since losing her parents in a tragic accident.

Lincoln, 22, is a talented actor who is in dire need of an assistant whilst filming Jay's movie about the musical duo AD2 and knowing Dani’s connection with Demetri and Alex, Lincoln begs Dani for her support. Needing someone who won't be starstruck Dani is given the job, whether she wants it or not. Not being able to talk, Dani texts her responses and poor Lincoln quickly finds out she is more than she seems as an abundance of sass is quickly directed at him.

Lincoln is powerless to Dani’s charms and he also immediately feels something for her but she being seventeen, as he repeatedly points out much to Dani's annoyance, leaves him in a quandary. After an unexpected turn of events thanks to an extra no-show, things quickly escalate between Lincoln and Dani when he gets to kiss her for a scene in the movie and it's a kiss which won't leave his thoughts, day or night.

His kisses weren’t the type you could physically prepare yourself for —the feeling wasn’t something my body would ever get accustomed to.

The supporting cast in this story is as equally memorable as its two starlets, Dani and Lincoln. From Pris, Dani's sister, Jay, Demetri, Alex and the loveable Zane, an impromptu house guest who befriends Dani, much to Lincoln's chagrin, each plays a part to make this story memorable and thoroughly entertaining in their own quirky way. I loved Demetri's protectiveness over Dani, Zane's determination to make Dani see the importance of marshmallows in life and also to rile Lincoln at every opportunity, and Alex and Jay's determination to keep Lincoln away from Dani with some strangely bizarre and imaginative death threats!

Rachel Van Dyken is the type of author who can write a story which leaves you wanting more from the first chapter and this book is no different. I love that sex isn't used to over emphasise emotions in her stories and with a tenderness and loving quality, each moment between her characters is cherished and not spoilt by overly graphic details. The connection between Dani and Lincoln is beautiful and despite Lincoln's unfortunate way with words, witnessed all too frequently, they have a perfect love, if only Dani would turn 18 to enable Lincoln to claim her heart, without first becoming seal food!

Although a stand-alone in a new series, this book really makes you want more from the characters, especially Zane, as we claw at the end of the book, desperate to understand who has damaged him and why marshmallows are so important to him!

I can't wait for more from Rachel Van Dyken, she has quickly risen to the top of my all-time favourite author list and if she keeps writing such wonderful stories, she will remain there for a very long time.
